It's an outdoor courtyard surrounded by the resort with views toward Aspen Mountain. It works beautifully for ceremonies and gives you an outdoor mountain setting while still having all of the conveniences of being at the hotel.
It can also be tented, which is worth considering with how quickly Colorado mountain weather can change.
Grand Astor Ballroom
For the reception, the Grand Astor Ballroom gives you a completely different feel.
It's a large indoor ballroom with chandeliers and a more classic, elevated atmosphere. The space can also be divided for smaller celebrations, so it isn't limited to huge weddings.
Having an indoor reception space is also a major advantage in Aspen. You can enjoy the mountains and courtyard during the day without having to build the entire wedding around the possibility of perfect weather.

For a wedding of around 100 to 150 guests, I would realistically plan for the overall wedding budget to reach six figures pretty quickly.

Summer
Summer gives you green mountains, long evenings, warm weather, and some of the best opportunities to spend time outside.
Fall
September and early October can be incredible when the aspens start changing. It's one of my favorite times to photograph weddings in Colorado, although the timing of peak color changes every year.
Winter
If you're planning a true Aspen destination experience, winter is hard to beat. Snow, skiing, fires, dinner in town, and a ballroom reception can make the entire weekend feel completely different from a summer wedding.
Whatever season you choose, I would build some flexibility into the timeline. Mountain weather can change quickly.
Photography at The St. Regis Aspen
From a photography perspective, I love that you're not limited to one environment.
You can photograph the quieter parts of the day inside the hotel, have a ceremony outdoors, walk around Aspen for portraits, and then completely change the feeling of the photographs once everyone moves into the reception.
It's also a setting that works beautifully with both film and digital photography.
I photograph weddings with a mix of documentary moments and more intentional portraits, so I love having the freedom to follow what's naturally happening while also taking advantage of the architecture, Aspen Mountain, downtown, and the light throughout the day.
Even setting aside 15 or 20 minutes to walk away together for portraits can give you something completely different without taking you away from your guests for a huge portion of the wedding.
What Couples Should Keep in Mind
Give Yourself More Time Than You Think
Aspen weddings tend to feel best when the timeline isn't packed from one thing to the next.
Give yourself room to actually spend time with the people who traveled to celebrate with you.

If most of your guests are traveling to Aspen, the wedding doesn't necessarily have to begin and end with the ceremony.
A welcome party the night before or relaxed brunch the next morning can be some of the best time you get with everyone.

Give your guests time to explore town. Have drinks together the night before. Leave some breathing room in the wedding day. Step outside for portraits when the light gets good.
