Why film photography?
Film has always been a big part of how I photograph weddings. The color, grain, and depth that film produces creates a timeless look that is difficult to replicate digitally, which is why many of my couples choose to include film wedding photography in their coverage. Film responds to light in a softer, more natural way, giving images an editorial feel while still staying true to the moment.
Film stocks & approach
Most of the film I use for weddings is Kodak Portra 400, Portra 800, and black and white stocks like Tri-X 400 and HP5. These films have a natural color, soft grain, and depth that give images a timeless feel, especially in changing light and outdoor settings.
My go-to cameras include the Leica M6, Canon 1N, and Contax G2, along with a few others that come with me on every wedding day. Each film stock and camera has its own character, which allows me to choose what fits the moment rather than shooting everything the same way.
My approach to film embraces the imperfectly perfect. I shoot film intentionally, often using flash in lower light and pushing film when needed, so the full day can be documented naturally while keeping the texture and depth that makes film photography the magic it is.
