NYC Film Engagement Photos | Central Park & Subway Couples Session on 35mm Film

NYC Film Engagement Photos | Annie Mae & Will

There’s just something about New York in the spring that feels impossible to fake. The park is finally green again, the light stays out a little longer, and the entire city feels alive in a different way.

I met up with Annie Mae & Will for their engagement session in NYC and honestly the whole session just felt effortless in the best way. Stylish without trying too hard, relaxed, and very them. We photographed the entire session on 35mm film using Kodak Portra 400 with my Leica M6 and Contax G2 — which felt fitting for the overall vibe of the session.

We started in Central Park around the Glasgow Bridge area with the skyline sitting softly in the background. The park was unreal that evening — lush spring greens everywhere, soft light coming through the trees, and just enough warmth in the air to make the city feel calm for a second.

One of my favorite parts about photographing engagement sessions in NYC is how quickly the energy can shift just by moving neighborhoods or hopping on the train a few stops away. After spending some time in the park, we headed downtown and leaned fully into the city atmosphere.

Subway Engagement Photos in NYC on 35mm Film

The subway portion of the session ended up being one of my favorite parts of the night. We rode a few stops downtown and photographed everything organically along the way — flash photos on the platform, motion blur with the train pulling into the station, reflections in the windows, and all the little in-between moments that make New York feel like New York.

I love mixing a more editorial approach with movement and imperfection, especially on film. The grain, slight softness, flash falloff, and motion blur all add something that digital honestly just doesn’t replicate in the same way.

Annie Mae & Will absolutely trusted the process too, which always makes a huge difference. Their outfits felt elevated and stylish while still feeling casual enough to move around the city naturally. Nothing felt overly posed or forced.

Editorial NYC Couple Photos with a Leica M6 & Contax G2

For this session I primarily photographed with my Leica M6 and Contax G2 loaded with Kodak Portra 400. Portra handles New York light beautifully — especially when the city starts reflecting warmer tones back into the streets.

We caught some incredibly beautiful mid morning light as we moved through downtown Manhattan and finished the session taking in some of the architecture and slower moments around the city.

Sessions like this are honestly why I love photographing couples in NYC. You can create something that feels cinematic and fashion-inspired while still documenting people honestly as they are together.
